Director Ron Howard Visits Mystic Seaport

The acclaimed director toured the place but the Seaport had no comment.

Film director Ron Howard visited Mystic Seaport on Tuesday, and got up close and personal with the Charles W. Morgan whaling ship, according to The Day.

Seaport spokesman Dan McFadden told The Day he had no comment as to Howard's motives behind his visit.

Howard is reportedly considering directing the movie version of Nathaniel Philbrick’s In the Heart of the Sea, which chronicles the story of the Essex, a ship that was sunk by a sperm whale in 1820. Actor Chris Hemsworth currently is attached to play a sea captain aboard the Essex. Hemsworth and Howard are finishing up a movie together right now called Rush.
