Mystic, CT — From their time in uniform to their everyday contributions in our neighborhoods, veterans embody service in so many forms. Patch and T-Mobile have teamed up to share stories of veterans making a difference in the places we call home.

This story was submitted by Doreen-Lin Dickerson, who nominated Retired MKCS Michael Louis Dickerson of Mystic. To share your own message of gratitude, click here to answer a few questions and we'll take it from there.

Michael enlisted with the Coast Guard in 1982 out of Cleveland, OH, wanting to make a better life for himself and his family. He served at stations in Buffalo, NY; Rockland, ME; Governors Island, NY; Yorktown, VA; New London, CT; and New Haven, CT, where he retired after 30 years of service. He served on many boats and ships, including our very own USCG Barque Eagle and Chinook here in New London. During his career, Michael taught school and mentored many young Coast Guard men and women along the way. He continues to mentor people he meets, and he attends Noank Baptist Church, where he is part of the Prayer Shawl Ministry and serves as a deacon
