Rep. Urban To Hold Community Forums On Role Of State Government
Points to focus on include the expectations of the government, if the government should be regulating businesses, and more.

From the Office of State Representative: Rep. Diana Urban (D-Stonington, North Stonington), House chair of the legislature’s Children Committee, will hold the first of several community forums titled “How Much Government Do You Want ?” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Stonington Police Station.
“I think this legislative session is going to be extremely challenging, so I really want to get this conversation started about the role of government,” she said.
“This year is going to be a watershed moment where we have to come to grips with the numerous questions about what we believe government is supposed to be doing for us. That’s why I feel these forums are so important,” she added.

• Is it government’s responsibility to make sure you are employed and have a paycheck large enough to support a family?
• Should government be involved in providing playgrounds for your community?
• How much clean air and water do you want and should government impose regulations?
• Should government be involved in regulating businesses?
• Should government pay for new schools?
“What areas should we cut and what should we keep?” Representative Urban asked. “Health care, environment, infrastructure, social services, education, regulations? Should we have highway tolls? Legalize marijuana and tax it? Should we give corporations money to stay in Connecticut?
“These are just some of the important questions we’re facing, and we need to decide what we want from government,” she said.
