Stonington Man Remains in Critical Condition After Fire
A March 17 house fire on Pequot Trail in Stonington destroyed the home and injured five, including three firefighters.

An early morning fire at 973 Pequot Trail, Stonington, reportedly began on the stove in the kitchen. According to The Day, resident Darryl Allen is still in the care of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and is in critical condition.
Why the fire began is a a bit of a mystery. Christopher Clarkin, deputy fire marshal with the Old Mystic Fire Department, told The Day the fire may have begun when cooking oil caught on fire or perhaps the stove was being used as an additional heat source and something caught on fire.
There were reportedly no working smoke alarms in the home, combined with a delay in calling 911 as a resident tried to extinguish the fire before contacting the fire department.
In total, two residents and three firefighters sustained injuries.
