Stonington Undecided on Hiring Director of Planning

The position has been vacant since last year and not everyone's convinced they need to fill it.

Stonington’s Planning and Zoning Commission is divided on whether they should hire a Director of Planning, a position that has been vacant for more than a year.

Some members of the commission want to examine the department in depth and see whether one is needed at all and other commission members want to go the route directed by First Selectman Edward Haberek Jr., according to a report in the Mystic River Press.

Patch reported earlier that Haberek has been acting Director of Planning on an interim basis and before that Town Planner Keith Brynes was. Haberk told the commission earlier this month that he no longer wants to wear “both hats” and requested money to be set aside to hire someone.
