This morning Stonington High School was placed on lockdown after administrators were alerted to a possible weapon on campus. Stonington Police responded immediately, taking a student into custody. The student was later found to be in possession of two facsimile (pellet) weapons. After a thorough security sweep, the lockdown was lifted. While the investigation is ongoing, there are no ongoing threats or concerns for public safety.

We are deeply grateful to the Stonington Police Department, neighboring law enforcement agencies, and Stonington Public School staff for their swift, thorough and professional response.

Out of an abundance of caution, tonight’s football game will be limited to players and their parents. Mental health services will be available for students at all Stonington schools, and families are encouraged to reach out if their child needs additional support.

We ask for support in stopping the flow of inaccurate information circulating on social media, and we encourage sharing only official updates.

We are again deeply grateful to Stonington Police officers, outside law enforcement, Stonington Public School staff, students, and all those who helped ensure safety today.

We appreciate our community’s understanding and partnership as we continue working together to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students and members of our community.
