Westerly Shaw’s to Close Next Month
According to a company spokesman, the store is not profitable.

The Shaw’s grocery store on Franklin Street in Westerly will close Aug. 3 because it’s not turning a profit, according to a company spokesperson.
All together, the Shaw’s and Star Market grocery chain is closing two stores in Rhode Island and four stores in Massachusetts, according to a report in The Westerly Sun.
Steven Sylven, a spokesman for Shaw’s told reporters that, “The stores identified have not been profitable for quite some time, and despite the best efforts of the company and our associates, we have not been able to reposition them to better compete in the marketplace and don’t anticipate being able to change this trend.”
