Argentine Bakery Opens In Stratford: Report

Dulce de Leche, which opened in Stratford this month, sells breakfast sandwiches, lunch entrees, Argentine desserts, coffee and more.

STRATFORD, CT — A new bakery serving Argentine and American fare has opened in Stratford — and its first few weeks have been a success, the CT Post reported.

Named Dulce de Leche, the café opened its doors on April 2 after a year of renovations and preparations, the newspaper said.

The bakery is owned by husband-and-wife duo Maria Estrada and Diego Castro, and it sells breakfast, lunch, desserts and coffee. Both Argentine fare (such as empanadas, facturas, and miguelitos) and American foods (like bacon, egg and cheeses and flatbread pizzas) are on the menu.

In a sense, Dulce de Leche is a decade in the making — Estrada started baking cakes for her kids' birthday parties in 2012, and ever since then has been decorating cakes and selling them through her Facebook page, according to the bakery's website.

The family first dreamt up the bakery in 2020, and now it's open at 1769 Broadbridge Ave., Stratford.

"They faced many obstacles in the process but in the end they created a restaurant that represent their culture and the sense of family that they bring with them," the website says of Estrada, Castro and their children.

Dulce de Leche is believed to be the first bakery of its kind in Fairfield County, the CT Post reported, and its owners told the newspaper that business is booming.
