Arrest Made In Killing Of Stratford Man: Bridgeport PD

The man was killed in a shooting in Bridgeport, according to police.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — An arrest has been made in a cold case murder in Bridgeport from four years ago. View a video below of the news conference announcing the arrest.

Bridgeport resident Victor "Chapo" Colon, 38, was arrested Monday on murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Stratford resident Joselito Calderon, 50, inside the Copa Bar and Restaurant on Lexington Avenue in Bridgeport on July 11, 2021.

Colon, a convicted felon, was one of several armed suspects who entered the Copa shortly before 1 a.m. in a failed robbery attempt. Calderon, a taekwondo master instructor, was the security guard at the establishment, and he was shot and killed while stopping the robbery.

Bridgeport police arrested Colon at the Robinson Correctional facility in Enfield, where he was incarcerated. He was charged with:

  • Felony Murder
  • Accessory to Murder
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm
  • Criminal Attempt Robbery in the First Degree

He is being held in lieu of bail of $2 million, and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 11.

"Bridgeport Police homicide detectives anticipate making additional arrests in the Copa murder and attempted robbery," said Shawnna White, the city's Public Information Officer.
