Garage Fire Extinguished In Stratford
Crews responded to the fire early Tuesday morning, according to officials.
STRATFORD, CT — Crews extinguished a garage fire at a condominium complex early Tuesday morning in Stratford, according to officials.
Crews responded around 5 a.m. to the 200 block of Agawam Drive after receiving a 911 call reporting smoke from the structure.
Under the direction of Assistant Chief Steven Alesevich, officials said a total of 22 firefighters responded to the scene.

“Upon arrival of the first due apparatus, fire crews made entry into the residence and quickly found the source of the fire in the garage,” according to a news release from Stratford Fire Chief Jermaine B. Atkinson. “The fire was extinguished quickly and they were able to contain the fire to the area of origin and limit damage to the residence which allowed it to be reoccupied upon completion of operations.
“The occupants self evacuated prior to the Fire Department’s arrival with direction of the Stratford Emergency dispatcher. Station coverage was provided by the Bridgeport and Milford Fire Departments while all on duty units extinguished the fire.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Stratford Fire Marshal’s office.
“The Stratford Fire department would like to remind our residents to have working smoke detectors, regularly practice an escape plan for residential homes, and call 911 immediately upon observation of smoke or fire,” the press release states.
