Police said the gun was found covered with "dirt and debris."
STRATFORD, CT — Police are investigating after a gun was found on the Nichols Elementary School property on Wednesday night.
The gun was “covered both inside and out with dirt and debris,” according to Capt. Jerry Pinto.
Pinto said the gun was “rusted over” from being exposed to the outside elements over an extended period of time.

The gun matches the description of a firearm “missing” from the scene of an incident that happened in 2017, according to Pinto.
“The Detective Bureau is investigating whether this firearm is related to that incident which occurred nearby,” Pinto wrote in a news release. “This firearm posed no threat to the public as it appears to be inoperable based on its current condition.”
