Obituary: August A. Palmer Jr., 98, of Stratford
August served as first sergeant in the US Army 86th Black Hawk infantry division during WWII. He also owned Universal Machine of Stratford.

STRATFORD, CT - (From Adzima Funeral Home) August A. Palmer Jr., age 98, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the West Haven VA Medical Center.
He was the beloved husband of Harriet (Kalinowski) Palmer. August was born in Bridgeport on August 19, 1922 to the late August and Celia (Hein) Palmer.
He grew up in Bridgeport and played as a standout quarterback for Harding High School. August then served in WWII and was first sergeant in the 86th Black Hawk infantry division under General Patton’s 3rd Army, where he earned several medals and commendations for his dedication and bravery.

The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest.
August then went on to own Universal Machine of Stratford and worked in that trade for many years. He was an avid golfer, duck pin bowler, loved cooking, watching sports, rooting for UCONN women’s basketball, and mostly spending time with his family.

August was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who valued time with his family.
In addition to his beloved wife, August is survived by his children, August Palmer III and his wife Rose, James Palmer, David Palmer, and Mary Carfo and her husband David; six cherished grandchildren, Debbie, Jessica, Jimmy, David, Justin, and Ashley; and great-grandchildren, Rachel, Nick, Ava Marie, Avery, and Jackson.
He was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy, Frances, and Adele.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 25th at 12:00 p.m. meeting directly at Our Lady of Grace Church 497 Second Hill Lane Stratford.
Military honors will be rendered immediately following.
Everyone in attendance must follow the current COVID 19 guidelines, wear a mask and practice social distancing.
