Obituary: Barbara Louise Blewett, 94, of Stratford

Barbara was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

From Dennis & D'Arcy Funeral Home) Barbara Louise Blewett, age 94, of Stratford, widow of Richard H. Blewett, passed away October 5th at Bishop Wicke Health Center in Shelton.

Born in Coffeyville, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Charles Francis “Frank” Barnard and Frances Margaret Richardson Barnard.

In addition to her husband, Barbara was predeceased by her sister, Jeanne Martin of Franconia, NH. She is survived by her son Richard S. Blewett and daughter-in-law Kathleen, of Newtown, daughter Jacquie Colburn and son-in-law Ken, of Bar Harbor Maine, and her two special granddaughters, Leah of NYC and Emily of Hilton Head, SC.

Barbara was most proud of her origins on a farm in the mid-west, and her intrepid move across country to California with her Mom and Dad when she was 11 years old.

There she graduated from Venice High School, Venice, CA, and met the love of her life, “Dick” Blewett, when he was a serviceman stationed nearby. With Dick, she moved to Pennsylvania to start her married life, then followed him to Tampa, Florida when he was called back temporarily to the service.

The couple returned to Pennsylvania after his service, then moved to Lordship, part of Stratford, Connecticut, where they made their home for many years.

Barbara often said that she truly loved her “little house in Lordship”. Barbara’s last move was to Crosby Commons, where she enjoyed the friendship of the residents and care of the wonderful staff for the last several months before her passing.

Services for Barbara will be private, at her request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Stratford United Methodist Church, 2600 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615, or, to Crosby Commons, Assisted Living at Wesley Village, 580 Long Hill Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484.
