Obituary: Sophie (Chernak) Pollock, 102, of Stratford

Sophie, always devoted and dedicated to her family, enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and trips to the casino.

STRATFORD, CT - (From Pistey Funeral Home) Sophie (Chernak) Pollock, age 102, of Stratford, entered peacefully into eternal rest on November 4, 2021.

She was the widow of Michael Pollock, Jr.

Sophie was born on March 22, 1919 in New York City to Michael and Tatiana Chernak.

In Sophie’s earlier years, she was employed at Remington Arms in the underground bunkers filling ammunition shells for military use during World War II.

She later worked in the offices of Sikorsky Aircraft and also Dresser Industries.

Sophie and Michael enjoyed entertaining family and friends with dinners and picnics.

Sophie enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking. Her specialty was fresh peach pie.

She was best known for her love of bingo and traveling in any bus to a casino.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Blackmon of Coatsville, PA and Elaine Kusheba (Michael) of Stratford; grandson, Chip (Jody) Blackmon of MO; great-grandchildren, Elijah Zane and Maia; great-great-granddaughter, Lucy Jane; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Welytok, Ann O’Meara and Nellie Estabrook; and two brothers, Steve and John Chernak.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 9:30 AM at Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford and at 10:30 AM at Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church with Very Rev. John Jillions officiating.

Interment at St. John Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM. Panikhida at 3:00. Masks are required.
