PHOTOS: Graffiti at Stratford Railroad Station

Updated 7:30 p.m. Monday with comments from Stratford Councilman Jason Santi (D-4)

"Graffiti around the town is an ongoing issue, because vandals, and some gangs do seem to tag the signage and buildings," Santi wrote in an email to Stratford Patch. "Gang activity is present all around town. Therefore, these symbols, (if gang-related), are not uncommon."

Santi said public works maintains town signs and thus are responsible for clearing the graffiti on the Stratford Railroad Station property. He said he's notified the mayor's office about the vandalism.

He added, "Graffiti on buildings does occur. Even if no one is caught, it is the responsibility of the  private property owner to remove the graffiti from private buildings because they can be fined up to $100 per day for each offense under the town blight ordinance. This occurs when owners refuse to remove graffiti within a reasonable amount of time after notification by the blight officer. If vandals are caught, the police department will arrest the offender and be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Similar graffiti with the 'Ghost' tag appears at Regal Cinemas around the corner on Barnum Avenue Cutoff, a resident told Stratford Patch.
