STRATFORD, CT – Sterling House Community Center has announced the hiring of former local newspaper editor and reporter Chris Carroll as its new Director of Development.
Sterling House Executive Director Amanda Meeson said this week that Carroll has replaced long-time Development Director Diane Sheridan. Carroll comes to Sterling House from The West Haven Community House where he has served as Director of Development since March 2011. Previous to his stint in West Haven, Carroll was the Director of Development at Boys & Girls Village, Inc., of Milford for nine years from 2001 to 2010.
Local residents may remember Carroll from his newspaper career beginning in the 1980s at Citizen Publications, which published the Stratford Bard. Carroll was also an editor and executive editor at the Stratford Star in the late 1980s and 1990s, and was the launch editor for Stratford Patch in January 2011. He began his non-profit development career in 1996 at ARI of Stamford, an agency that works with adults with disabilities.

“Chris’ wealth of experience in non-profit fundraising paired with a connection to the Stratford community is a powerful combination for Sterling House. We are excited to have him on board,” said Meeson. “We are going to miss Diane and all she has done for Sterling House in the past decade. We wish her the best in her retirement and we are grateful for all the connections and community she built during her time here.”
Carroll added, “I have had an opportunity to work with Diane for two weeks as she graciously introduced me to many of Sterling House’s supporters and sponsors. Diane is certainly well known and well respected and I know she will be missed.”
Carroll noted that leveraging the financial and in-kind support of the community is vital to the continued success of Sterling House and its ability to serve Stratford and the surrounding community. “In the coming weeks and months I will be getting out to meet as many supporters and various stakeholders as I can, and I hope that everyone will continue to think of Sterling House and support its mission when they consider making a donation, especially as the holiday season approaches.”
