Occupation:
Retired after working at General Electric for 25 years
Family:
I am married to my husband, Robert since 2012. I was blessed with two daughters (41 and my daughter who recently passed at 36) and a stepson (41). My husband and I raise three very active granddaughters, 16, 14 and 9.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
I am currently serving as Councilwoman in District 6. I also serve on the WPCA, the Department of Public Works, Ordinance, CDBG and I am the Chairperson on the BOE Liaison committee. I previously served on the Planning Commission and on ZBA.
Why are you seeking this office?
I am the current incumbent and would like to continue in this role to continue the good work that our council has done, including passing 2 consecutive budgets with no mill rate increases, improving safety as well as always advocating for those in my district and the town overall.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
We need to ensure we continue to provide services to our residents while keeping taxes flat. We need to increase our tax base through continued economic development. Affordability, safety and a fiscally responsible town government is key to attracting new residents and retaining those that have spent a lifetime here.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I’m committed to advocating for my constituents in District 6 (and all of Stratford as evidenced when I spent a considerable amount of time with Success Village residents in District 5 during court proceedings regarding receivership). I am a hands on Councilwoman. I spent time meeting and helping residents in my own District 6 shortly after the Microblast that occurred during my term. I’m available to help whenever and wherever I can. I enjoy helping others.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Affordability for Stratford residents is a priority. As with our own personal budgets, town expenses are also increasing in many areas. We need to be mindful of, and creative with, how we use taxpayers dollars and always search for the best way to spend those dollars without compromising town services.
I will continue to do my part and be a fiscally responsible steward of the town budget.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
My past 2 years on the town council and other roles on commissions and councils is the best evidence of my past success.
The relationships that I have built with many of my constituents in District 6 is more evidence of my reliability and consistency to advocate for them.
Stratford is a great town to call home.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Learn the facts, listen to others, then speak
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
It’s my responsibility as an elected official to be the voice of my constituents. I am honored and thankful that I was elected to serve and, I hope to continue to serve for a second term.
