Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
No
Why are you seeking this office?
I care deeply about education in Stratford. I attended public schools here, I taught at Stratford High for 24 years, and my niece and nephew attend schools here.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
the ability of our schools to prepare students for a successful future
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I believe I bring a wealth of experience — 35 years of public school teaching and over a decade of teacher association leadership in problem solving and negotiation with superintendents and boards of education — to the role.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
ensuring that all students — regardless of income, ethnicity, race, ability, gender, religion, and orientation — are heard, celebrated, and empowered in Stratford schools
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
teaching, teacher leadership as a mentor to new teachers and advisor to students, advocacy for teachers, students, and schools as a union leader
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
“Students don’t care what you know. They want to know that you care.”
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
There is a wealth of talent among our students and educators in Stratford. If we develop that talent — and make wise decisions in attracting diverse and committed team members to join our current faculties — our students will thrive.
