Stratford Kids Dig the ‘Fauxhawk’
Spiky haircut has been a popular request recently at a Stratford Center barbershop.

Hairstyles such as the so-called “Fauxhawk” and Mohawk have been popular requests among youths who enter New Era Barber Lounge at Stratford Center.
Owner Ismael Diaz says his customer base has varied since opening in September 2011, but recently when someone of high school age comes in, requests for those two spiky cuts are common.
For those unfamiliar, urbandictionary.com defines a Fauxhawk as “a full head of hair combed into the middle to fabricate the look of a Mohawk … Contrary to the traditional ‘Mohawk’ style, hair is not shaved completely on the sides of the head.”
Business is also good among those seeking more traditional cuts, says Diaz, who started giving haircuts to friends in his front yard in middle school.
Word-of-mouth advertising is working well, he says. Diaz is, however, looking for help at the shop, part-time and/or full-time.
So if you’re “someone with a license and has a following” call 203.736.7261, he says.
