Stratford’s Salerno’s Apizza Returning To Say Goodbye With Free Pizza
The beloved pizzeria is returning for 1 day to celebrate the retirement of owner Carlo Salerno, who wants to bake free pizza to say goodbye.
STRATFORD, CT — Salerno’s Apizza, Stratford’s beloved neighborhood pizzeria, is reopening for one more day next week – and giving away free pizzas.
The event, which will be held Saturday, July 8 starting at 4 p.m., will celebrate the retirement of owner Carlo Salerno.
Salerno’s customers were saddened by the abrupt closing earlier this month after Carlo Salerno said he had planned to close it by his 80th birthday in July. The family has owned and operated Salerno’s for more than 75 years.

Please stop by and wish him a Happy Retirement. Come munch on the exact Scamorza pizza his parents baked and helped make popular in 1947. We will post more info as the days go by. PLEASE STOP BY. He wants to thank each and every one of you !!!”

Salerno also recently teased a “part two” to the story in a post on Facebook.
“Thank you all so much for the outpouring of support in the wake of our recent news,” Salerno wrote in the post on June 15. “We are overwhelmed by your responses! It has been an incredible honor to read your heartwarming stories and hear of the impact our little restaurant has made on so many of you over the years.
“Reading your comments brought tears to my eyes!
“We love you and we love our restaurant!!!
“But don't worry... there is a part two to this story that we will share... When we can.
“Please stay tuned. There’s more!”
