Man Fatally Stabbed Girlfriend, Charged With Murder: Stratford Police

A man was charged with murder and was being held in lieu of a $1 million bond in connection with the death of his girlfriend, police said.

STRATFORD, CT — A man is accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend Monday night in Stratford, according to police.

The Stratford Police Dispatch Center received a call around 7 p.m. on Oct. 20 from a man saying that he had just stabbed his girlfriend, and that he now wanted to kill himself, according to Capt. Jerry Pinto.

The caller identified himself as Stanley Mulvey, 67, and said that he lived on Griffen Street, according to Pinto. Mulvey also told the dispatcher that his girlfriend’s name was Megan McShane.

Pinto said arriving officers found Mulvey lying atop McShane, who was unresponsive, on the kitchen floor. Both Mulvey and McShane were covered in blood, according to Pinto.

A large kitchen knife covered with blood was also seen by the officers near both Mulvey and McShane, according to Pinto.

“Stanley Mulvey refused to obey the Officer’s commands to remove himself from atop Megan McShane, so the Officers used physical force to remove Stanley Mulvey from the home via a nearby exit doorway to the outside of the residence,” Pinto wrote in a news release.

Mulvey was immediately handcuffed and placed into a marked police car, according to Pinto.

Pinto said Mulvey made “several admissions to the officers that he had killed Megan McShane.”

A Stratford EMS paramedic arrived on-scene and pronounced McShane, 62, dead from “obvious homicidal injuries,” according to Pinto.

Pinto said Mulvey is a convicted felon who had been previously arrested for a domestic violence incident, in which McShane was the victim, in May.

Mulvey was arrested and charged with felony murder and interfering with a police officer. He was being held in lieu of a $1 million bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
