1. Welcome to Five Things, a regular feature that will provide information, insight and interesting facts about Suffield and the day at hand. This space will provide a preview of upcoming happenings in town and glimpses of what will be on the Suffield Patch today.

2. The board of selectmen's special meeting last night brought the preliminary budget for bonding up to $15 million, with funds for a new library building included. The board of selectmen will present the figure to the board of finance on Monday, Dec. 13.

3. It will be cloudy and cold today, with a high of 29 degrees predicted. Winds between 7 mph and 15 mph will come from the west, with gusts at speeds up to 28 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

4. The Suffield High School girls basketball team will kick off a two-game home stand, going hard in the paint against the Sports and Medical Sciences Academy at 7 p.m. The Wildcats face East Granby in a regional battle on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.

5. Hanukkah ends at sunset today. I hope everyone who observed the holiday had a tov simkah.
