Carbon Monoxide Leak at Spaulding Resolved

Students had to leave the building around 9 a.m. but are back inside.

Students at were removed from the building around 9 a.m. this morning after a carbon monoxide detector was activated but are back inside and returning to classes.

Students waited in buses on the school's property to stay warm while the Suffield Fire Department cleared the building.

"We didn't send anybody home,"said Ed Basile, business manager for Suffield Public Schools.

The west wing of the building has been cleared and the east wing is close to being cleared, he said.

Students were in the buses for a short amount of time, not much more than 15 minutes, before returning to parts of the building cleared by the fire department.

"It's just a matter of ventilating," Basile said.

A faulty boiler caused the problem and is being repaired, according to Basile. The school has two boilers and heat is currently being provided in the building.
