Public Hearing on the Community Development Block Grant program

The Town of Suffield will conduct a Public Hearing at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, in the bottom-floor conference room of Town Hall, 83 Mountain Road, Suffield to discuss the 2011 Community Development Block Grant program and to solicit citizen input.

Maximum award limits include a total of $750,000 per Fiscal Year for Public Facilities, $700,000 per Fiscal Year for Public Housing Modernization, $500,000 per Fiscal Year for Infrastructure and $300,000 per Fiscal Year for Housing Rehabilitation Program.

Major activity categories are Housing - New Construction, Housing Acquisition, Housing-Rehabilitation, Community Facilities/Public Services, and Economic Development.  Projects funded with CDBG allocations must carry out at least one of three National Objectives, as follows:  benefit to low- and moderate-income persons, elimination of slums and blight, or meeting urgent community development needs.

The Town of Suffield anticipates applying for $120,000 handicapped accessibility improvements to two units in the Suffield Housing Authority’s senior housing complex on Bridge Street. 

The hearing is accessible to those with disabilities.  The purpose of the public hearing will be to give citizens an opportunity to make their comments known on the program and for approval of the Program Income Reuse Plan.  If you are unable to attend the public hearing, you may direct written comments to the Town Suffield Economic and Community Development Department, 83 Mountain Road, Suffield, CT 06078 or you may telephone 860-668-3849.  In addition, information may be obtained at the above address between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday or 8:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.
