From Kent Memorial Library: Welcome to New Americans? Abigail Fisher Williamson will discuss the United States history and policy on immigration on Monday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Suffield Senior Center, 145 Bridge Street.
Ms. Williamson is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Policy & Law at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Harvard University, an MPP from Harvard’s Kennedy School, and a BA from Williams College.
Beginning roughly a century ago, US lawmakers passed a series of restrictive laws that greatly curtailed immigration up until 1965. Today, immigration is an increasingly polarizing political issue with calls for greater restriction from some political leaders.
