Man Dies Of COVID Complications While Incarcerated In Suffield
The 56-year-old MacDougall-Walker inmate was transferred to an outside hospital on March 5, but he died Thursday morning.
SUFFIELD, CT — A man who was incarcerated at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution died of coronavirus complications Thursday morning, the state department of corrections said.
Though the man's name is not being released because of medical privacy laws, the department of corrections said he was 56 years old.
He was being treated in the institution's medical isolation unit beginning Feb. 25, but was transferred to an outside hospital on March 5, where he died.

The man last entered the Connecticut correctional system on Sept. 9, 2017. He was serving a 24-year sentence for first-degree assault, the department of corrections said.
"This sad news only strengthens my resolve to continue the Agency's fight to combat the spread of this stubborn virus," said Angel Quiros, the department of corrections' commissioner. "My condolences go out to his family."

The man was the fourth MacDougall-Walker inmate to die of COVID-19 complications this year. The three others died in January.
