A Suffield High School teacher used "highly offensive racial and gender stereotypes" during class, school officials said in a letter.

SUFFIELD, CT — A Suffield High School teacher used "highly offensive racial and gender stereotypes" during a recent classroom discussion, school officials said in a letter to parents.

According to NBC Connecticut, which obtained a copy of the letter, an investigation is underway after students reported the incident.

"As a district and school, we reject the damaging and inaccurate statements that were made and we believe it is imperative that this be clearly articulated in the correspondence we are sending you," the letter reads.

The letter didn't provide any details on the specific language used, but it said school counselors and social workers will help students process the event if needed.

"The Suffield Public Schools is deeply committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within our schools, and this conduct will not be tolerated," the letter reads.
