  1. During a recent meeting, the Regional School District 17 Board of Education recognized the top 10 students from Haddam-Killingworth High School's Class of 2023. Abigail Jones was named Valedictorian, while Kristen Thebeau earned the Salutatorian title. The other honorees included Sasha Berardino, Kaleigh Bodak, Laura Strick, Caroline Conte, Grace McKenzie, Catie Haas, Paige Corcoran, and Julia Favalora, all of whom achieved outstanding academic and extracurricular accomplishments. (HK-Now)
  2. The Salem Witch Trials in 1692 were part of a larger pattern of witchcraft accusations and executions in New England. Alice Young, hanged in nearby Windsorin 1647, was the first person executed for witchcraft in the colony. Many others were accused and subjected to bizarre tests to determine guilt. In recent years, efforts have been made to reverse these wrongful convictions, and Connecticut recently passed a bill to formally exonerate all those convicted of witchcraft, including Alice Young. (The Delaware Gazette)
  3. Haddam-Killingworth High School's baseball coach, Mark Brookes, achieved his first state championship after leading the team for over four decades. With a final victory of 6-2 against Coventry, the Cougars secured the title in the Class S state final. Despite previously going 0-5 in championship games, Brookes and his team finally achieved their long-awaited success, bringing joy to the school and former players in the stands. (Hartford Courant)
