On April 5, shortly after 6:45 a.m., HVFCo. responded to a vehicle fire on Geromin Drive. The vehicle, which was parked on the street without occupants, caught on fire and fire spread to another vehicle, damaging a wheel well and tire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Members also responded to multiple brush fires this month. On April 21, firefighters extinguished a fire started by fishermen near the Connecticut River shoreline. A small camp fire rapidly spread to an area approximately 20 feet by 10 feet wide.
Drills this month included water pumping and master stream operations, hose testing and apparatus checks. Several members also participated in a live-burn exercise at Middlefield Volunteer Fire Co.’s training facility on April 24.
The Haddam Volunteer Fire Company’s Junior Division raised $324 during a pasta dinner fundraiser April 9 at Station One. The meal included pasta, homemade sauce and meatballs, Italian bread, salad and refreshments. The HVFCo. Auxiliary donated an array of desserts to accompany the meal.
“We’re grateful for everyone in the community who came down to support us,” said Junior Division Chief Zachary Ouellette.
HVFCo. also welcomed Probationary Member Scott Miller to the company on April 4.
