Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for Haddam, Killingworth

Wind chill values will approach zero or even below zero for most of the state Monday night and into Tuesday.

Over the weekend, meteorologists said we were going to be hit with an arctic blast, which would produce the coldest weather of this winter season thus far.

And right on cue the National Weather Service has issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for all of Middlesex, New London, Fairfield and New Haven counties for Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 4 and 5, because of the predicted bitterly cold temps and wind chill values.

No such advisory was issued for Hartford and Tolland counties, but temps and will chills there will also be frigid. And unlike most of the state, there is a chance for snow, sleet and rain beginning late Friday and into Sunday for this area.

New London County and Middlesex County towns have rain in the forecast for the weekend.

Here is the National Weather Service advisory information for the immediate Connecticut coastline. The NWS states that temps will fall into the teens producing wind chill values near zero late tonight and into Tuesday morning.

For sections just a bit more inland, you can expect wind chill values of 5 to 10 below zero late Monday night and into Tuesday morning. The wind chill values in Hartford and Tolland counties will also approach zero degrees too.

Detailed forecast via the National Weather Service:

  • Monday: sunshine, temps peak at 29 degrees and fall fast, wind chill values are between -5 and zero degrees tonight and the actual temps are in the single digits
  • Tuesday: more sun and highs of 28 degrees and temps dip back into the teens at night. During the day the wind chill value will still feel below zero
  • Wednesday: more sun and a warm-up with highs approaching 40 degrees
  • Thursday: temps into the low 40s and sunshine
  • Friday: more sun and temps in the low 40s
  • Saturday and Sunday: rain is forecast for both days for southern Connecticut but for northern areas there is a rain, snow, and sleet chance
