- Mark your calendar for the Summer Art Festival on the Essex Town Green! See the latest work from New England-based artists and also visit the Spectrum Art Gallery and Store. Multiple art styles will be featured as well as pottery, ceramic, wood, and glass. The event is taking place Jun. 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Jun. 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Find additional information about the festival here. (HK-Now.com)
- Middletown South Fire District (SFD) held its specialized high-angle rescue training at Higganum Cove. After the Middletown South Fire District was unable to use its original training location, SFD asked Haddam for permission to use the land at Higganum Cove. The team was in need of a natural wooded and rural environment to simulate real-life emergencies. SFD used caution to prevent any damage to the landscape and no motor vehicles were used. (HK-Now.com)
- A large wildfire in Nova Scotia is impacting the air quality throughout Connecticut. The state's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) says that those in sensitive groups or with respiratory problems could have issues breathing while the smoke continues. This smoke is low-altitude, unlike the recent smoke Connecticut has been experiencing from western Canada. You can subscribe to the Air Quality Index for further updated information.
