Celebrate East Lyme Begins!

The sandcastles are made and Main Street is closed to all but foot traffic now.

Celebrate East Lyme began with a flurry of construction as teams worked intently to create sand castles and sculptures at Hole in the Wall Beach. The tide was coming in but most are still standing if you want to check them out.

Vendors began setting up shop on Main Street a little before 1 p.m. Aside from a brief incident with a runaway minicart on Main Street (nicely stopped by members of the National Guard in Niantic who happened to be having lunch nearby at the time, thanks!), everything seems to be going off without a hitch.

Celebrate East Lyme's official kickoff time is at 3 p.m. but the event will go all day until the Fireworks at McCook Point Park at 9 p.m. and the party will continue long into the night!
