East Lyme Student Wins County-Wide Essay Contest
The East Lyme High School student won a $1000 scholarship from the New London Maritime Society

Congratulations go to Jameson Foulke, of East Lyme High School for being this year’s first-place winner of the 2013 Reid MacCluggage Black Maritime Scholarship offered by the New London Maritime Society.
Foulke won the contest for his essay, “O Captain, Our Captain – Hugh Mulzac" and the NLMS will give him $1,000 for college.
According to the NLMS website, "The Reid MacCluggage Black Maritime History Award was established to foster an awareness of the experience of African-Americans in the context of maritime history. It honors the commitment of Reid MacCluggage, the editor and publisher of The Day newspaper from 1984-2001, to the development of multicultural awareness and excellent writing skills in students."
