Walgreens Sets Closing Date For Old Lyme Store

Officials have said the store will close, which follows a string of recent closures across the state.

OLD LYME, CT — The Walgreens in Old Lyme will be closing permanently Jan. 27, according to a notice on the company's website.

The store is located at 90 Halls Road.

A Walgreens representative said customers can continue to fill prescriptions at this location until the closing date.

The store is part of Old Lyme Marketplace, which was sold to Charter Realty earlier this month, according to The Connecticut Scoop. The plaza is home to a Big Y and Snap Fitness.

When the store closes, prescriptions will be automatically transferred to a nearby store, Walgreens said in a statement. The nearest locations are Essex and Westbrook.

The news comes as Walgreens has closed many stores recently, including in Hamden and Meriden earlier this year. Three store closings were also announced in the spring in East Haven, New Britain, and East Hartford.

In October 2024, Walgreens announced the closing of 1200 Walgreens locations across the country.

“We will continue to execute our previously announced turnaround plan aimed at stabilizing the retail pharmacy, including our footprint optimization program,” the company previously said in a statement. “Increased regulatory and reimbursement pressures are weighing on our ability to cover the costs associated with rent, staffing, and supply needs. It is never an easy decision to close a store, and we know how important they are to the communities we serve and therefore do everything possible to improve their performance. When closures are necessary, we will work in partnership with community stakeholders to minimize customer disruptions.”
