Five Things to Do This Weekend

Go shellfishing, play Wiffleball for K-9s, catch a free concert and watch a little theater.

 

The weather this weekend promises to be gorgeous so here are a few suggestions to help you make the most of it. 

1. When was the last time you played wiffleball? The East Lyme Police Benevolent Association is holding a Wiffleball Tournament today at Bridebrook Park in East Lyme. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the games start at 11 a.m. It's $20 to play, but that gets you lunch and a free t-shirt and all the money raised will go to benefit the

2. Fancy some clams for lunch? If you've got a shellfishing license, you can go collect them yourself! On Thursday morning, Ledge Light Health District gave local shellfishing areas in East Lyme and Waterford a clean bill of health. Area A in the Niantic River in East Lyme and area E and approved areas in the Niantic Bay are now open to shellfishing.  

3. The Lyme Farmers Market is open, as usual, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Ashlawn Farm, 79 Bill Hill Road in Lyme offering locally grown fresh produce, flowers, jewelry, . Plus it's a great place to get a really good cup of coffee!

4. The East Lyme Parks and Recreation Sounds at Sunset Summer Concert series continues tonight with the Tirebiter Band. The free concert runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the East Lyme Town Hall Pavilion.  

5. On Sunday, August 26, the Hygienic Art Park in New London is hosting two very different events. At 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., the Little Theatre of the Deaf will present two performances of the company's family oriented "Stories in My Pocket Too," in American Sign Language and spoken word. Both performances are free.
