UPDATE: Flash Flooding in Downtown Niantic [VIDEO]

Torrential downpours caused flooding in downtown Niantic at the intersection of Route 156 (Main Street) and Pennsylvania Avenue at about 6 p.m. on July 28. Cars were struggling to pass through more than a foot of water. Low lying side roads were also experiencing similar problems.

Niantic Fire Department reports that the water abated in less than an hour. It was simply too much rain for the drains to handle at one time. As of 9:45 p.m., there were no reports of problems with flooding at the intersection or elsewhere in Niantic.
