Five things to do this weekend, September 8-9, 2012

 

The weather this weekend is a mixed bag that may include some rain, a few scattered thunderstorms on Saturday and a few clouds on Sunday but there should be plenty of sun too with temperatures in the high 70s, which is good news because there are a whole host of outdoor fairs and festivals happening this weekend. 

1. Ashlawn Farm on Bill Hill Road in Lyme is the center of activity locally both Saturday, when it holds the Farmer's Market from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4:30 p.m., when it's hosting the Celebration of Connecticut Farms "Farm to Table Dinner," or as Ashlawn Farm Guru Chip Dahlke likes to call it, "the food orgy." 2. The and will run all weekend, featuring 27 local restaurants offering a little of everything at booths set up on Cottrell Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

3. The 67th Annual Ledyard Fair kicked off on Friday and will be offering all kinds of country fair and midway fun for the whole family this weekend. The event opens at 9 a.m. Saturday and runs until 11 p.m. and continues Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. .

4. If you're more in the mood for music, New London is the place to be on Saturday from noon to 11 p.m.. , outdoors at the Parade Plaza and at the Hygienic Art Park and inside at Oasis Pub, 16 Bank Street, and the Telegraph, 19 Golden Street, in New London.

5. And now, as Monty Python would say, for something completely different. Lyme Land Conservation Trust will be bringing to town for a little bat chat on Saturday at 3 p.m. The event, which is designed to appeal to both kids and adults, will be held at the barn at 59 Brush Hill Road in Lyme.
