High School Soccer Season Kicked Off Friday With Two Victories for East Lyme
Two long-time rivals faced off on the soccer field for the first time this season but East Lyme High School girls and boys came out on top against Lyme-Old Lyme High School.
East Lyme and Lyme-Old Lyme High Schools rekindled a longstanding rivalry last night when they met on the soccer fields in East Lyme for the kick off of the fall soccer season.
The girls played first. After a scoreless first half, East Lyme High School's Megan Holt scored a goal in the 16th minute of the second half. That was the only goal of the game, which left East Lyme with a 1-0 victory over Lyme-Old Lyme High School.

The boys took the field next and played hard and fast. East Lyme High School's Jeff Lemmon scored a goal within the first minute of the game and Alex Acquino followed up with a second goal to give East Lyme a 2-0 lead.
Lyme-Old Lyme High School players set themselves up for plenty of chances but failed to close the deal until Rowan Hallahan scored a goal. That brought the score to 2-1 but that was where it stayed, giving East Lyme High School its second victory of the night.

"It was a very well played game," said East Lyme High School boys' soccer coach Paul Christensen. "To open up and win against a team like Old Lyme, which is very, very good, is a tremendous effort."
"Apart from the score line, we were pretty pleased with how we played tonight," said Lyme-Old Lyme boys soccer coach Marc Vendetti, who told his team, "There's no need to hang any heads here."
