Man Pleads Not Guilty in East Lyme Sexual Assault Case

Gabriel Martinez, 18, of New London is charged with allegedly sexually-assaulting a 15-year-old girl at McCook Point Park in Niantic earlier this summer.

 

An 18-year-old New London man pleaded not guilty to sexual assault and other charges related to an alleged incident at McCook Point Park in Niantic earlier this summer. 

Gabriel Martinez of 44 Chester Street entered the plea in New London Superior Court yesterday. Martinez is charged with first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a child, second-degree breach of peace, and simple trespass.

East Lyme Police Sarg. Joseph San Juan confirmed that the East Lyme Police Department arrested Martinez on the evening of June 8 on charges of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl but said he had no further details at this point.  

Martinez is free on a $20,000 non-surety bond. The court ordered that he have no contact with the girl and set his next court appearance for August 22.
