[UPDATED] Old Lyme Issues Mandatory Evacuation Order Before Hurricane Sandy Hits

Residents in coastal and low-lying regions, including the following areas listed below, are being told to evacuate by the end of today. The regional emergency shelter is located at East Lyme Middle School. Pets are welcome.

A Press Release from the Town of Old Lyme

The Town of Old Lyme now issued a mandatory evacuation based on the latest prediction of catastrophic flooding. All residents of the beach communities and low-lying coastal and river and stream areas must evacuate to a safer location by the end of today. 

If you do not evacuate now, you may become isolated by flood waters and unreachable by emergency personnel. This mandatory evacuation affects people living in the following locations:

  • Pilgrims Landing
  • Ferry Road from the DEP dock to Rt. 156
  • Ferry Road from Rt. 156 to Lieutenant River Lane
  • Caulkins Road
  • Devitt Road
  • Katherine Drive
  • Joel Drive
  • Noyes Road
  • Bailey Road
  • Meadow Lane
  • Olivia Lane
  • Pine Road
  • Hefflon Farm Road
  • Strawberry Lane
  • Foggy Meadow Road
  • Homestead Circle
  • Sill Lane from Griswold Ave. to Mill Lane
  • McCurdy Road from Lyme St. to Rt. 156
  • Mile Creek Road from Rt. 156 to Buttonball Road
  • Riverdale Landing
  • River Road

Remember to secure your valuables, turn off your main electrical breaker, close and secure any propane tanks and bring any valuable documents with you.

If you decide on this option to shelter from the storm, please bring for each individual:

  • Pillow
  • Blanket
  • Personal toiletries
  • Personal clothing and items
  • Medications
  • Valuable documents

Residents may bring their pets but are required to also bring with them:

  • Rabies tags
  • Carrier
  • Leash
  • Pet food and bowls

Directions to East Lyme Middle School:

  • Take I-95 North to Exit 73.  At bottom of ramp turn left onto Society Road.  At stop sign, bear left.  School is on left approximately ¼ mile ahead.
