Niantic Girl Pitches, Hits, Runs, and Wins a Major League Contest!

Sophie Dubreuil proves she has what it takes to play at the national level. If girls could play Major League Baseball, she'd be playing for the Mets!

Niantic's Sophie Dubreuil made it to the big show and won! Dubreuil claimed victory in the 11- to 12-year-old girls' division of the 2013 Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run competition on Monday.

This national contest invites youth to demonstrate their skills by competing in pitching, hitting and running competitions. Participants advance through four levels of competition, beginning at the local level, which can be hosted by organizations, leagues, or volunteers within a community, and continuing through sectional and team competitions.

All 30 MLB Clubs hosted team championships at their ballparks on weekends from June 1 through June 30. Sophie's team was the New York Mets. The top three competitors nationwide from each age group (7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14) in both baseball and softball divisions then advanced to the 2013 Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run presented by Scotts National Finals.

To make it to the finals, Sophie had to beat no less than 600,000 other kids. The 24 finalists made a special trip to T-Mobile All-Star FanFest, an interactive baseball theme park and the largest baseball fan event in the world. Among its attractions are an exhibit from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, batting cages, clinics from Major League legends, free autograph sessions with former Mets, MLB legends and Hall of Famers, memorabilia and much more.

That has to be any baseball fan's idea of heaven but to go on and win the contest, well, that beats all!
