Old Lyme Historical Society's New Calendar Offers a Year's Worth of History

"2013 Now & Then," an Old Lyme Community Calendar, makes its big debut tonight.

A Press Release from The Old Lyme Historical Society

The Old Lyme Historical Society will be celebrating its inaugural issue of the “2013 Now & Then, Old Lyme Community Calendar” at a free public reception on Monday, November 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lyme Art Association, 90 Lyme Street, Old Lyme.

The archives of the Old Lyme Historical Society include many wonderful photographs of Old Lyme buildings and landscapes dating back to the beginning of the twentieth century. The Historical Society thought that it would be interesting and fun to create a calendar that juxtaposes historic photographs with contemporary ones of the same scene.

Each month is sponsored by a different community organization and the calendar includes listings of their events throughout the year, and a short description of their organization on their month. The enthusiastic response from community organizations has been gratifying. The first 12 that were approached agreed to participate.

The sponsors for this year's calendar include Center School PTO, Coffee’s Country Market, Cooley Gallery, Florence Griswold Museum, Lyme Art Association, Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau, The Nearly New Shop, Old Lyme Marketplace, The Old Lyme-Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library, Old Lyme Town Hall, Sound View Beach Association, and The Village Shops.
