Paul Formica Will Run For A Fourth Term As First Selectman Of East Lyme

East Lyme First Selectman Paul Formica didn't have to ponder long before deciding to run again.

"I'm thoroughly enjoying this job, especially in a town where I raised my children," he said. "It's been an incredible honor and privilege to serve in this capacity and I'd like to continue to move the town forward as we have, in a bipartisan manner with a focus on the process and the people."

The town has a lot of projects in the works that Formica said he'd like the opportunity to continue to shepherd, from the completion of the Boardwalk and the Niantic Streetscape Project to the town's 20/20 Committee's plan to upgrade town building facilities.

As the school district looks to make major changes to buildings at the elementary school level, Formica said, he wants to make sure the school project is compatible with the town's plans and with the tax base.

Formica noted that for the past five years, with the leadership of the Board of Finance, East Lyme's annual average tax increase has been little more than 1.2 percent. Now that the town has completed most of its planned major purchases, such as new town vehicles, he said he hopes to focus on tax relief going forward.

"We have a great town management team and town workers that really put forth a great effort and I'm proud to be able to lead them," Formica said.
