Roadwork = Traffic on Rte. 1 in East Lyme + Old Lyme
Expect delays starting today on the Boston Post Road due to repaving that will continue through October 4.

Between the school buses and the tree trimming along powerlines, local roads have been a bit jammed lately and it's about to get worse.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) will be repaving Route 1, starting today and continuing until October 4. DOT road crews will be milling (scraping off the old blacktop), then they'll be paving.

The roadwork begins at Flanders Four Corners (intersection with Route 1 and Chesterfield Road/Route 161) in East Lyme and will continue down Boston Post Road all the way to the Old Lyme Fire House on Boughton Road in Old Lyme.
Today and tomorrow, you can expect delays due to paving in East Lyme along Upper Walnut Hill Road, including Grassy Hill Road and Holmes Road. Those roads will be open to local traffic only, so please use alternate routes.

State DOT has told the town that workers should be able to accommodate Flanders Elementary School by not working during peak traffic hours when school opens in the morning and when students are dismissed in the afternoon. DOT is not planning to spray paint the road during school hours either.
There will be an increased police presence along Route 1 to help direct traffic while the work is being done. Drivers are advised to take extra care while the roadwork is underway.
