Sailfest Fireworks Are Still On Tonight In New London

The fourth largest fireworks display in the Northeast is happening tonight as part of Sailfest New London but the fun continues through the weekend with tours of tall ships, free concerts, and a carnival.

If you're planning to watch the fireworks in New London tonight (and why wouldn't you?), according to the Sailfest website, the fireworks are set to go off as planned.

The Santore Brothers' fireworks display is sponsored by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and is considered to be one of the best and biggest in the Northeast, but that's just one of many events planned as part of Sailfest this weekend.

Sailfest is Southeastern Connecticut’s largest summertime event attracting more 300,000 people over the three-day festival. There are more than 200 vendors, multiple stages of free entertainment, featuring music of every genre and for every age group. There are carnival rides and tall ships, arts and crafts and a lobster dinner on Fisherman's Pier this evening.

Tomorrow morning gets off to a running start with the Sailfest Charter Oak Federal Credit Union 5K Road Race. Check in/Registration is from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Also on Sunday, Sailfest aims to break the world's record for high fives. You can sign up as a group or just show up at 1:45 p.m. on Bank Street in New London and prepare to greet your neighbor.

Sailfest, which started on Friday, runs Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You'll find the full schedule of events on the Sailfest 2013 web site
