UPDATE: Storm Knocks Out Power But Lights Are on in Lyme, Old Lyme, and East Lyme
Only two homes in Lyme and one in Old Lyme lost power but about 35,000 other CL&P customers across the state weren't so lucky.

This afternoon's thunderstorms blew rapidly across the state but they did plenty of damage in a fairly short amount of time.
In all, Connecticut Light and Power reported 35,000 homes lost power. Crews worked diligently to get the lights back on, however, and by 7:30 p.m. power had been restored to 22,000 homes. By 3:30 a.m., fewer than 2,000 homes remained in the dark.
Few homes locally were affected. CL&P's outage report showed that just two homes in Lyme and one home in Old Lyme lost power. No homes in East Lyme lost power, according to CL&P.

Despite receiving no reports of an outage, a Connecticut Light and Power truck was quick to arrive in Niantic after a viewer sent in a picture to a local television news station showing a downed power line, reportedly in Niantic.
The picture was shown at least twice during the news broadcast but after driving around town in search of it, the CL&P truck found no evidence of any problem.

CL&P had received no reports from any customers in East Lyme about the problem as of 5:30 p.m. and said dispatch had received no calls reporting any such problem.
