The Daily Five: East Lyme Haunted House, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and Tracking Sandy
Five things to know for Old Lyme, East Lyme, and Lyme on Friday, October 26, 2012.

1. There may be a hurricane looming on the horizon but you won't see any evidence of that today, which should be lovely, sunny and warm with a high temperature of 67 degrees. Weather.com is atypically optimistic, predicting "abundant sunshine," so get out there and make the most of it! Temperatures will drop to about 50 degrees tonight.
2. Hurricane Sandy bombarded the Bahamas yesterday and seems to be going out of her way to try to hit the Northeast.
"Confidence is growing that Sandy will be a major threat to portions of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast," Weather.com reports. "Though we feel that it's likely Sandy will hit some portion of the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic coast, there remains uncertainty with where this occurs and the exact magnitude of the impacts. The forecast involves a rare, complex atmospheric setup that will allow the system to pivot back to the northwest into the region rather than simply moving out to sea."

4. As Halloween falls midweek this year, many events celebrating this spooky holiday are being held over the weekend. You'll find the full schedule here but to get things off to a startling beginning, tonight kids from East Lyme Youth Services will be getting their fright on at the Smith Harris Barn.
"The Haunted Barn" will be open from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is a suggested donation of $2, and half of the proceeds will go to Share & Care in East Lyme.

5. Old Lyme Board of Selectmen have scheduled a Special Town Meeting for Monday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School auditorium. There will be three votes taken.
- To accept Village Lane, situated within Village Estates Subdivision, as a town road as approved by the Old Lyme Planning Commission and as recommended by the Board of Selectmen.
- To accept Woodcrest Drive, situated within Woodcrest Estates Subdivision, as a town road, as approved by the Old Lyme Planning Commission and as recommended by the Board of Selectmen.
- To elect a new member to the Regional District #18 Board of Education to replace board member Judith Read, who has resigned. The person chosen to fill this seat will hold the position until the next municipal election in November 2013. Although the school district is shared between Lyme and Old Lyme, only Old Lyme registered electors may vote on this position.
The Sound View Commission will give an informational presentation on the plans to revamp Sound View Park immediately following the Special Meeting. You'll find the plans here.
