The Daily Five: Have an Amazing Labor Day!

1. It should be perfect picnic weather this Labor Day! Weather.com is predicting sunny skies with a high temperature of 77 degrees. There's a 10 percent chance of rain but showers are most likely this evening, when the chance of rain increases to 30 percent. The overnight low should be 64 degrees. 

2. but all government offices are closed so there's nothing happening in terms of meetings today. for a list of all the places that are closed today and to find out what is open. 

3. It's not to late to register for Jeffrey's Rainbow Run, a 5K benefit race to be held this Friday, September 7. The run is dedicated to 6-year-old Jeffery, the young Salem boy who lost his life in a tragic woodchipper accident in April.

The event begins at 6 p.m. at McCook Point Park in Niantic and follows a path along the shoreline that people can choose to walk, run, or simply stroll. 4. so if you have to head south, you might consider taking the train. Shore Line East will be operating on a weekend schedule today. Starting tomorrow, however, the Stamford Express will be back in action with two morning and two afternoon trains straight through to Stamford, which means you don't have to transfer at New Haven.   

5. Looking for something fun to do today? Get lost! and though it's not usually open on Mondays, it will be open today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Working your way through this four-acre maze in Middlefield can take up to an hour-and-a-half but there are overlook bridges and "corn cops" with maps to help if you get lost. 

Tickets are $5 for kids aged 4 to 12 and $10 for adults. Children under 4 are free and paths are wide enough for strollers. Proceeds go to benefit the American Cancer Society. For directions and more information, go to Lyman Orchards Web site.
