The Daily Five: Old Lyme Girl Scouts Good as Gold

1. There's a 60 percent chance for rain today, with scattered thunderstorms predicted for the morning and showers in the afternoon. Weather.com is predicting a high temperature of 83 degrees and an overnight low of 63 degrees. The chance of rain drops to 10 percent tonight.

2. In case you missed it ... that first troubled Old Lyme and Lyme in June has expanded to other area towns following the discovery of reportedly stolen guns found during a police search of a barn on property owned by former Lyme First Selectman William T. Koch.

There's happier news from East Lyme. Hundreds of people from as far away as Georgia and New Hampshire competed in The Niantic Bay Triathlon on Sunday but beat them all! If you missed it, check out the awesome photos and taken by Patch's local contributors!

3. Two members of Old Lyme Girl Scout Troop 63059 were honored yesterday at Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall with Gold Awards. Like the Boy Scout's Eagle Scout Award, this is the highest achievement for a Girl Scout and is awarded in recognition of outstanding community service. The two recipients were Shannon Chapman and Amy Lee.

Chapman's project was designed to encourage kids to go out and explore local trails by creating a Trail Passport to be stamped for each visit to the many local hiking and nature trails.

Lee's Gold Award project was "Run Like a Girl," a fitness program she started at the Lymes' Youth Service Bureau aimed at encouraging girls to get out and run. 

Congratulations to both!

4. Old Lyme Board of Selectmen meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall to hear old business, which includes a review of the town's , and new business, which includes the Old Lyme Rowing Association's request to install a fence at Hains Park and a discussion of Sound View Street Parking. 

5. Lyme is busy with meetings tonight. The Lyme Board of Selectmen will meet at 3:30 p.m. to discuss seeking a Historic Designation for the Town Hall, which will enable Lyme to qualify for future preservation grants to help pay for the Town Campus project.

The town is fundraising for the $4.7 million project to expand the aging Town Hall and replace the . The project was approved by voters at a referendum in April and, if all goes according to plan, a groundbreaking will be held next spring.

Lyme's also meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. to discuss pending litigation, specifically two suits Lonnegren v. Lyme, and Platner v. Lyme, with a view to resolving both.
