2. Last weekend was all East Lyme all the time, but from July 27 to July 28, it's Old Lyme's turn in the spotlight. The town's Midsummer Festival kicks off at the with a concert by River City Slim and the Zydeco Hogs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the festivities continue on through the weekend.

3. has entered the 21st Century! This week the Town Hall went wireless. Most of the people who work at Town Hall were unaware of this giant leap forward because they don't need wifi. Technology Director Ruth Roach said it was mostly provided for the convenience of citizens.
As a journalist who works remotely for an online publication, I for one am really jazzed about this new development! Now if I could just get cell phone reception at Lyme Town Hall, I'd be all set!
4. August 14 is Primary Election Day in Connecticut and you have until noon the day before the polls open to register as either a Democrat or a Republican if you want to vote. Primary elections are closed to all but affiliated voters.
If you're not going to be around on election day, absentee ballots are now available at Town Halls in Lyme, , and East Lyme. You should be able to pick these up at the Town Clerk's office but the Registrar of Voters (which also has an office in Town Hall) should have them too.
Patch is offering daily coverage of the election, so check back to see what each candidate is up to! One of them is pretty easy to keep tabs on as it's , who as the endorsed Republican candidate will face off in the primary against Republican challenger Daria Novak. Both of them are vying for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney (D-2nd District).
5. You may not be ready to run for election but how about running in a power boat race to raise money for Leukemia? The Third Annual Leukemia Cup Power Boat Poker Run will be held on Saturday, July 28, in Niantic and New London.
You have until noon today to register online but you can register in person on the day of the event from 10:30am to 1 p.m. at in Niantic or at City Pier in New London. The Poker Run will be held from noon until 4 p.m., rain or shine!
